Hello!

I just wanted to let you all know that I am safe and sound back in the USA. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who helped make my short stay with you a very wonderful experience. It meant a lot to me, the warm welcome I received upon my first visit, and the continued hospitality I experienced thereafter. Who knows? Maybe I will be back some time in the future (Singapore has left its mark on me... I miss it).

So, thanks again, and may God continueto richly bless the congregation at Pasir Panjang.

Your sister in Christ,
Meisha Bynoe

Thank you all for answering my prayers. Again thank you guys for your display of practical Christianity and you know PP (old Tanglin Halt Church) was my birth place and my heart is always there with you guys, especially the 'old gang' who are still faithful through so many many many years. Special thanks to Paul Quek - Paul, you are my angel, my love and thanks to you and your family.

My special love to you Henry and Nat, you have been a rock to me and PP Church has been there for my family through many years of trial, so please accept my undying gratitude and love to you.

I will return to the hospital on the 13th October for clearance, so do continue to pray for me.

Love you guys. Keep on keeping on.

Dear Pasir Panjang church of Christ,

I am a writer and a graduate of Abilene Christian University & David Lipscomb University. I thought that it would be a nice idea to try to give something back to say thank you to my colleges & to the churches of Christ. The idea that I had is to email my poetry to churches of Christ and allow them to print my poems in their church newsletters or on their websites if they would like to. I am not charging anything, I am simply saying "Hi, I am here, I am a writer, and I would like to share my writings with the churches of Christ.

I am including one of my poems here and I give you my permission to use it in your church newsletter if you would like to. I hope you will like my idea and my poetry. If you do like it then I have more that you can use at my website under "The Songs of Chapelgate." Please feel free to go there, copy what you like and use it. I thank you for the work you are doing for the body of Christ and wish you the very best.

Sincerely,
Ms. Angel Isaacs

Heaven

I believe there's pearly gates
And I can't wait to see
The mansion He's preparing
And building just for me

His kingdom is within us
His kingdom is yet to be
I want to live in Heaven
And let Heaven live in me

Heaven's streets are paved with gold
And people will cry no more
But down here on earth we think we're waiting
All along we have the keys to Heaven's door

His kingdom is within us
His kingdom is yet to be
I want to live in Heaven
And let Heaven live in me

Yes, we are his holy people
And I can't wait to be
Made of gold and filled with treasure
Oh, He's building inside me.

Dear Henry,

I have been driving 14,000 miles and being a little tired afterwards. Anyway the efforts of raising funds for the church building and school building are going slow because of the economy and the churches have used their excess funds for missions this year. My presentation has been accepted well but most are looking towards next year. So far I have raised about $45,000 but $15,000 of it was delayed until next year. It is a whole lot more than what was rasied by others in the last six years but far short of what is needed. I have started promoting the fact that I want the school to be International because of the great need in the area for quality training of preachers and missionaries. This means that I am actually making plans on how to have a English program also instead of just a bahasa one.

My elders have finally got behind the work and have asked to have a meeting concerning developing a board for the school because those whom they have tried to raise funds have asked about this. I have given a lot of thought as to whom I would like to see on the board and your name always comes first to my mind for a number of reasons.

1. You are familar with the work and a participant in it.
2. Your name has influence not only in Asia but America also.
3. You are knowledgeable of how to teach Asian students.

Please give prayerful consideration to becoming a board member for the school. They have asked me to do something that I know nothing about as I have never done anything like this. However I am learning in a hurry especially about fund raising. I am thankful for men like John Massie and Henry Green who have been a termendous help.

The land for the church building has now been cleared and is ready, as far as I know, for construction but I don't have the funds to do it at this moment. I could really use a lot of help in raising the additional US$35,000 that is needed to complete this project. I am doing my best here but that seems to be falling far short because of the need for the school facilities. Trying to rasie funds for too many things dilutes the message and thus nothing comes in. I have decided to focus on the school facilities because that is the larger amount. I have some good possiblities but until one has it in hand it is only a possiblity. If there is anyway that PP and you could reach out to the rest of area to find the funds for the church building it would be a termendous blessing to the work and me. HELP!

I pray that Nat is better. Lusi is doing OK as I am. I had a problem with my ears but found some medicene that cleared up the problem. My heel has given me a lot of pain for the last four months but with better shoes and arch supports, that I found here, it seems to be getting better. The problem was that my arches had fallen and it caused my tendon in the heal to be inflamed. I haven't been exercising like I was in Batam so my tendious seems to want to come back. I have to find a way to keep fit while traveling around the country for the next three months. I will be returning on November 24. Take care.

With the love of Christ

Dear brethren,

Greetings to you all brothers and sisters in Christ. The church in Batam is going well and nothing special exist during the month. Our attendance was a little slow as many brethren were working on Sunday to cover of the three days public holiday for celebration of 58th Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia (16-18 August), So our averaging is 50-55 each week and we usually have 5 new guests. We continue to teach the Bible class in the morning and Evening worship from the book of James.

One of the most exciting in our teaching and preaching activities here in Batam is Weekend Fellowship Class every Saturday at 7 PM. Some of our attendance are guests and members. Ferdinand and I are so happy to see of their enthusiasm in singing, praying and ask many questions about salvation. Our objectives in this class is to build a study habit and this is a great opportunity for us to teach the Bible to them about Jesus and His church, how to obey His gospel, and having a new life in Jesus Christ. With this class we establish some good relationship with our prospects and mostly of them agree into what the Bible teaches.

During the month of August, we are so busy to prepare of various things for School construction that we have to start on next week according to schedule. We have finished to make a Letter of Agreement in Notary and we will cooperate with a qualify consultant to oversee the construction. Please pray for this construction!

The other great blessing that we have here is our mission to Duri. I went there 3 weeks ago to help the Team there to arrange the various things about the mission there. I was so happy to see the zeal of the Team to teach and preach the Gospel to the lost people there, but I found some problems there as follows:

1.Team is still young men
2.They don,t have experience yet
3.They have to speak to older people as the most people there
4.Lack in wisdom

We made a meeting to evaluate and how to overcome the above problems and the Team seems agree to change the method and arrange the new system to teach and preach the Gospel to the people there. Please pray for this mission!

Our office hours we used for teaching the people who came to the office to ask about Christianity and during the month, we spoke to 14 person and some of them are Chinese. The problem is we still difficult to speak to Chinese and how to approach them. Suppose anyone here in PP who able to send the material to us how to speak and approach the Chinese people are very welcome.

We have planned to establish a permanent congregation in Batu Aji. It seems Batam government has given us a green light to receive a land for the church as wide 2000M there. The reason of this is almost 30% the population of Batam are living on this area. We can build a simple building of the church there to begin the evangelical and worship. The government has provided infrastructure such as Electrical, Water system, Telephone, Internet access, Road, Security system, etc. We use every Saturday to visit and survey this area and to promote the church to the people there. So our vision in future that we will have four congregations in Batam (Batam Center, Nongsa, East and West Batu Aji). Batam as a small island will be an educational Center and example to all the Churches of Christ throughout Indonesia because we commit to the Biblical principle in our leadership.

Thank you for your praying, financial support and for your love to us in Batam - God bless.

Your fellow servant,
Herbin,
Batam, Indonesia

On the 17th sunday I am planing to come over to your place for worship. Will be glad to speak for the church if you have time for me.

Henry,

We have just found a way to get tickets for Janis & me at about half the price, BUT it requires that we do the trip in 30 days! So, it causes us a problem.

We can't wait until Nov. 2, Sunday to leave. So, to do this we will have to leave earlier than we intended, and miss Sunday, Nov. 2. I know you had set those Sundays ( 26th & Nov 2) for adult classes for Janis & me.

Would this be a disaster for our schedule if we had to miss the 2nd one? We would be happy to do anything to work with you as we wamt to devote our time & energy to Singapore and your efforts.

Would a special day of focus be out of the question at that time of the year? What do you think?

Our love to all,
Pence & Janis

Greetings from KL! You must be pretty busy after the recent camp in Melaka. Keep up the good work you and the church in PP have been doing.

We are buying a piece of vacant land, about 3 km from city centre, which is certainly strategically-located. We want to build on the land for a new outreach work in the southern part of KL city (currently we are in the north).

Thank you for your generosity. God bless you in your work for Him.

In Christ,

Thank you for the warm letter greeting me upon arrival in our home in Oregon. It stirred again the deep joy of being the servant of the Pasir Panjang family. The confirmation that dear ones are making a good use of the messages of the Lord is deeply encouraging to me.

I feel deeply in debt to you for the confidence you showed in my regards and the doors of ministry that your influence opened to me. I will continue to pray God's richest blessings on your pivotal service in the crossroads of Asia.

The generous hospitality of yourself and Nat and so many others deeply touched me. The thoughtful words of encouragement of so many dear ones will be long treasured. The unselfish transportation service of many members and especially Moy Chee and her son in taking me to the airport will be long remembered, along with the meeting and farewells of the two couples.

My flight was safe and timely. Ferne was at the airport to meet me. After two weeks of intense care of her critically ill parents she was probably more exhausted than I was. We are getting back on schedule and getting our "body clocks" regulated.

Ferne's parents are improving enough that Ferne was able to leave them in the care of other relatives. We plan to return in the near future.

Know of my joy in being included in the history of the congregation and of having contributed something of lasting value.

Know of my affection and esteem in the Lord,

I really enjoyed my visit to your congregation on March 18th. The lesson was very good, the people were warm and friendly, and I felt welcome as a brother in Christ.

It is truly an amazing thing that God has done in planting members of His family all over the world. It is so refreshing to worship with family wherever one goes.

Loy made me feel especially welcome at the men's class and during worship. Paul, the one who volunteered to take me back to my hotel was especially hospitable. We lunched together and visited for nearly two hours. It was great fellowship! These men should be commended for their spirit of hospitality.

I hope to one day visit again and hear God's message through you.

In Him,
Randy Crist
