Astraware's Sudoku
Taking the world by storm!
These days, it is hard to go anywhere without finding some people 'hard at work' on a Sudoku puzzle. Sudoku has been around for ages - Palm's single number freeware has been floating around ever since there were puzzles for the Palm. It is not only until recently, that the craze was rekindled.
There are currently a few Sudoku programs for the Palm but imho, I think Astraware's is tops. It has a nice interface, absolutely intuitive with lots of features. You can start playing at once. Stop at any time and return to where you were, even if you move to another application. For those who wants more, there are features galore.
As you can see from the top screenshot, you can start with the puzzle, load the puzzle of the day (free puzzles from Astraware's site) or even create your own. The menu offers you statistics of how your grey matter is performing, options for sound, key press and level of help. On the display option, the 'show guidelines' is very helpful, especially with such a messy array of numbers all over the screen. The auto pencil mark feature is also good, though I rather complete the puzzle by myself.
This is how the puzzle looks like with the gird feature on. Very nice and helpful, and takes nothing away from the challenge of the puzzle.
On high res Palms (ie all OS5 Palms except the Xpore m68 :-(), you can even scribble your guesses with the auto pencil marks on as seen above.
Though not as many levels as some Sudoku games, this is not really an issue as there are enough in-betweens to graduate from. I find Astraware's Sudoku an excellent implemention of the game, with all the features I am looking for.
