Hands on Review of the LG Prada phone
It has been truly said that a thing of beauty is a joy forever
i got the prada early this month
and as i explore it more each day
i am impressed over and over
how beautiful it is
and what a joy it is to have and to hold
now that the lg prada is in town,
tai tais will be abandoning their paper weight nokia 8800
for this lightweight funky lg prada
it's really simple to the point of being minimalist
eg contacts has only one field
yet at the same time it has advance features like group contacts
imho hi-tech people would also like it
as i am beginning to do so.
i have never used a lg phone
and was surprised that the os is actually better than samsung's
which i had the hardest time during the starhub 3.5g test run.
however, if samsung is your cup of tea
you might hold on for the upcoming samsung f700
which has a really nice gui like the prada
but like the dopod, sports a pull out qwerty pad.
hmm...
you have probably seen many reviews on YouTube.
still, when you hold one in your hands
it does feel incredibly small (and light),
especially after i have used both e61 and e61i.
The interface is really wonderful
- it is the best touch screen i've ever seen
and so easy to use.
hit the right button,
you get back to menu.
press the button on the right side,
and the phone unlocks.
i simply love the menus
- each time you click on one icon
you are treated to some eye-candy
- someday all phones will look this good.
in case you think this is beauty without brains,
look again
- it has all the features of a good phone:
web
email
camera
video
music
even an fm radio
i want to say a word about the camera
- it is really, very nice
even comes with auto-focus
that works really nice.
the micro sd card is really badly positioned
right under the sim card
so you need to shut off the phone, remove the battery
to get at it.
i figured the best way to get photos to the pc for printing
is to use bluetooth to my e61i
which syncs really good with my pc, using usb connector.
take a look at the indoor shot below from the prada
better than anything i could get on the i61i
although prada looks best in the understated b&w theme,
you can use colour themes
but that would really spoil the fun.
Update on the LG Prada phone
over the weekend, i switched from the e61i to the prada
and this time with more patience and less bustle
i seem to be enjoying it a lot more
with less fumble
the browser works just fine
without any configuration
though the email takes some doing
but really, it's quite a hustle to reply to an sms, not to mention an email
so the best use i could think of is to read emails
to browse the mirco sd card or phone memory
go to mystuff
where you can play selected videos, photos, mp3
or install programs
photos take a long time to open
due to the slow processor and small phone memory
so its not really a feature i would use
although i have quite a lot of pics on the card
mp3 plays ok
got a nice graphic user interface
so got all my fav pops there
video plays ok too
downloaded several videos from youtube
also the fukk espisode of simpsons
converted them to 3gp
and upload it to the microsd card
the way the phone is built
games are not the first thing in lg's or prada's mind.
it comes with 4 ok games
- halloween fever and pipe are better than
photo puzzle and virus (landscape game).
old jar games by spurce like tictactoe, memory, 15
all works on the touch screen.
these games are also playable:
arcade park
casino wheel
concentration
magical mahjong
mahjong deluxe
yahtzee deluxe
midnight casino
midnight poker
paris hilton's diamond
plumber
lucky slots
solitaire top 12
tetris mania
same game2
because the phone is touch screen driven,
and even when you can call out a transparent scroll button or number pad
the best type of games are the turn by turn genre
pdf, doc and txt files all read ok
the kjv.jar also works good
esp with its heavy sharp fonts
so i'm really over the moon with this
as i love to carry a bible with every mobile device i own
as i have mentioned already
the worst thing about this phone
is the contacts form that offers just one field on the sim.
you have to copy it to the phone memory
before you get all the other fields
including photos
i got this phone to mess around with
hoping that i dont have to read the manual
or learn the lg os
and so far, i would say, so good
most users would enjoy this beauty
pros for lg prada:
form factor
sharp bright screen
good camera - 2mp with auto focus
nice icons, heavy easy to read fonts
easy to use.
cons for lg prada:
no qwerty key board for sms, emails
no alpha pad (just numeric) for apps like mini opera, money manager
fingerprint magnet.
Prologue
my daughter wrote this poem after reading my review
she got an early lg prada
went shopping at tangs a few days ago
before the great singapore sales
left it at the dressing room
(very few customers at the designer's section)
and found it gone within minutes of leaving
A thing of beauty is a joy for less than a week
Especially for something so cool and unique
I had one in the palm of my hand
Someone saw it and it was more than they could stand
For a moment I let my guard down
I was with a friend, shopping in town
They swooped, pounced and took it from me
Which made me depressed and in need of therapy.
Luckily this story has a happy end
I realised I have something better than money and friends
I have a family that loves me a truckload
Before you can say 'silent mode'
I had a replacement (this time, with security code).
