maxTEXT: The Most Complete Palm SMS Application
6 months ago when I first got my Treo 270, I was searching high and low for a SMS application that will do group messages. Either applications that were capable do not work on the Treo or applications that work on the Treo does not have this capablity. I wrote to several developers including Handspring if such support is forthcoming, but received uncertain responses from all.
Not long ago, I was alerted to such a program from Germany,
maxTEXT. The first thing I did was to download the generous 10-day trial version and test out its group messaging. Within minutes, I was totally sold on this program - not just for this feature, but as a totally complete SMS application. Lets take a look at this nifty $18 program, one that is worth every cent of it.
maxTEXT is an intutive, easy to use program with all the bells and whistles. You start off with a user-friendly screen. On the top menu are the forward/backwards arrows, sorter by name/time and the 9 folders. Inbox and outbox are self-explanatory. Friends are for your favorite SMS people. Addressbk is a list of all the people on your address book with mobiles. Draft and Sent do what they mean. Memopad is a useful utility that converts what you have into memopad format and vice-versa. Trash is your recycle bin. Dialer provides you a nice way to send your SMS or call a person.
At the 'Friends' folder, you can add all the friends you have to your heart's content. This can be done by keying in the data or importing them from your Addressbk. Tapping the name, starts the SMS to that guy, while tapping on the number starts a voice call to him. When you tap on the smiley icon, you can create a group of limitless names to send your SMS to. I tested with a group of 19 to my church leaders and another group of 33 to my small group leaders. It worked so well that even as the SMS was sent to the group of 33, some were already messaging me back!
maxTEXT is one of the most complete SMS applications around. It works right away after installation without any configuration needed for the Treo 270. It seamlessly send "unlimited" messages
up to Palm's clipboard size
(about 1000 characters). If you like, you can even SMS to all every Mobile in your Palm Addressbook.
The graphic user-interface is detailed and somewhat funny. Even the extra-long registered code comes with a thoughtful help (eg TV one six MHL...). If SMS is important to you, like it is to me... go get maxTEXT.
