GREAT VALUE SMARTPHONE SOFTWARE

I see a brave new community developing in the smartphone interest group. It is a unique community where many enthusiasts are creating freewares and developers like MadBeetle are coming out with quality software for just a few dollars. These are carefully crafted applications to include nearly everything possible - sound, animation, data bases... all the good stuff for a price that well below the $9.99 mark, mostly $2-4.

I was on the web this easter holiday looking around for what is available in smartphone software.

One of the apps I am interested is a world clock and what good fortune awaits me when i come across WorldTime by MadBeetle for just $9!

This is a full fledged application that includes multiple clocks, world map, city database etc. On the map option, it looks pretty much like the palm CityTime. In addition, it can display 4 clocks at once, vital data of cities and even skins for the default clock - very nice.

Looking further, I discovered that the developer, MadBeetle has a really good collection of offerings for the smartphone - more than most developers I've seen so far. Here are a few more samplings and all between $2-4!!!

I definitely recommend SmartPong - it reminds me of the Gameboy game, Alleyway where the bricks moves all the time. This version is full color with great explosions and rumble effect - sweet! In the higher levels, you will meet robots, computers... some of the bricks even fall to a lower level as it is shot. Better than Arkanoid! Sure gets my attention.

If the above screenshot of JetPackJim reminds you of the Palm game, SFcave, you'll be quickly forgiven. I can't put it down since I've installed it. It is graphically more pleasing but rather difficult, I think.

If you need conversion between metres and yards etc, here's an app which works like the Palm program, Conversion. Quick and fast; no mess. Like we say in Singapore, 'Cheap and Good'.

I would like to close this roundup with Eleven, a game which I have been playing non-stop - more addictive than crack. The layout are placed in a similar fashion as AstraWare's Bookworm and is animated in much the same way except all tiles must add to 11. Try it - you'll be hooked.

Goto HandanGo to get these programs by searching under madbeetle... you'll soon be using your smartphone more often!
