Second Thoughts on the Apple Iphone

As nice as the iPhone is
with a great slim form factor
and excellent attention to detail
the iphone is not for everybody

personally, i am so weaned on the symbian os
that anything out of my ken appears a hassle
especially with all my bad experiences with itunes

my wife really likes the iphone
bright, clear like her palm zire
with everything working out of a box
- as soon as there is a way to put a bible in it
i'm ordering the next one out for her

as it is, the iphone is very much web based
no games or bibles for d/l
everything online via the internet
- so a good, fast connection is necessary
but without even 3g, i have grave doubts about the iphone experience

at lunch i tested the wifi
it worked or at least logged on
but when i use safari, youtube, stocks, map and weather
the iphone keeps returning 'edge not found'
and will not switch to wifi
even though the wifi was active

paddy tells me that safari, stocks, maps and weather works for him
- perhaps it's due to his level of unlocking
so the usefulness of a iphone in Singapore now
would depends a lot on getting it unlocked
and getting edge out of the way

i do like to carry games with me
because the only time i get to play is when i'm out of the home/office
also i need to have my bible and reference works with me on the go
so i wont feel complete with a device without one
unless this changes, iphone is definitely out of my choice

still, many may go for the iphone...
people like my wife who likes basic functionality
and others who dont want to carry too much baggage

maybe iphone is pointing the way to the future
where changing phones is just a matter of logging on a website
like what gmail is now doing - keeping our contacts on the web
and what yahoo go is attempting to do
this simplifies life
what do you think?
no data on the phone
just a lot of links...
