Hands on Review of the New Nokia e61
I was kind of looking forward to the SE P990i, but it turned out to be another fat pig like the P900i that I had. Now that I am using the new Nopkia e61, it is more like the slim P990i that I wanted without the camera. All I can say is that
I really like the e61.
Here are the pros:
1 slim
2 great qwerty pad
(i dont like pulling out a stylus as it requires both hands)
3 bright colourful big screen with auto sensor light adjustment
4 good web browser
5 ability to create folders
6 easy to use whole phone as hard drive (plug and play with usb cable)
7 great standby 'today' home screen
8 flash player
9 able to project screen from phone
10 good bundle of business software, gps stuff
Some minor picky cons
1 s60 3rd edition not downward compatible
2 time screensaver black on black (what gives?)
3 poor built-in apps, but easily replaced by 3rd party vendors
a. clock -> handy clock (with workday alarms, auto lock)
b. music player -> lcg player (karaoke on the go!)
c. emailer -> profimail (attachments and all that jazz in a great gui)
4 320x240 dont fit most jar games
To complete a great device, get
1 worldmate - world time, weather, currency exchange
(got 3 years' subscription but dont think i will hand on e61 for that long
already eyeing n95  )
2 handy expense - keeping track on-the-go
3 handy safe - vital info wherever u r
4 bibletogo - still the fastest and best (kjv diehard)
5 mobireader - got the complete bible suite (too much good stuff)
6 s60 3rd edition games (jar games dont cut it on e61)
a yacht
b gem magic aka bejewelled
c meteor aka breakout
d skyforce - great arcade shooter
e mau mau aka uno
d chess - tough fight on the expert level
e 3d mahjongg aka taipei
f zingles aka sudoku
g yacht aka yahtzee
h backgammon - a gentlemen's game
i hearts - more fun than a barrel of monkies
One final word...
I must say that in spite of my rigid demands
the nokia e61 continues to impress
it has only been a week since i've got it
last night i create several folders
installed scores of stuff
and had the good sense to back it up on the card
in the morning, the e61 becomes really sluggish
i started becoming impatient
and pressed more buttons than i should.
eventually i had to turn it on and off
and to my horror
all my files returned to the installat. Folder!
well, i wasnt really to start moving all these files
to its given folder
ie if i could even recall where is what
then i remembered the backup
did a speedy restore,
the e61 asks to reboot
- hey presto!
Everything is back to its original folders
this is the first portable device besides the palm pda
whose backup really works
now i'm a believer
