Hands on Review of the 3G iPhone

above is the 16gig 3g iPhone compared to the ipod touch
it is bigger, fatter - such a pity
if it only stayed at ipod touch's form factor
that would be great
i have 2 threads on the 3g iPhone on the web
you might want to check these out
after you get a quick overview here

singtel is using the iphone to boost their BBOM plans
however, you can just get one based on their cheapest plans without data
this will set you back by $1040 for 16gig and $980 for the 8 gig model
btw this pic is taken with the iphone
and then uploaded to facebook in a ziffy

the best iPhone experience is with wifi
where everything as the advert goes, is 'very fast'
here's the google maps application
getting my home location
at the time when i was lounging by the poolside
- just hold the home button and press off for a second
the iPhone takes a screen shot of what you are doing
then i use facebook app to send the pic there
pretty niffty, eh?
btw 347 pasir panjang road
is the address of my church; not my home

here's the satilite picture of where i was
i did a search for my church at pasir panjang
and then ask for a gps routing
(not turn by turn as in agis or mapking)
and that's what i got below

hey, that's the route i take every day!

while the iPhone is not a full-fledged telephony device like the nokia, htc etc
it is beginning to open up to third party apps
and there are many free stuff at itunes store
plus some nice ones like itilt pinball for just a fistful of dollars

iPhone is really good for web surfing
here's a screenshot of my church's webpage
easy to read, eh
there are many bibles for the iPhone
still no niv bibles as yet
the best for normal church use (not a study bible)
imho is the free bible reader from olive tree

nice, clean layout
adjustable font sizes, colours etc

very easy to navigate; fast also

many good, free versions included
i have another 3g iPhone thread at
http://www.spug.sg/forums/showthread.php?t=93553
here are two good tips submitted by the forum participants

ringtones for the iPhone
1. Open iTunes and select your favourite MP3 audio file.
2. Right-click (Cmd-click for Macs) on this file in your library to bring up the context menu.
3. Select Get Info. This will open a new dialogue box showing various details about the audio file. Select the Options tab.
4. Check the boxes next to both Start Time and Stop Time and enter the times you want your new ringtone to start and stop (the maximum length is 40 seconds) then click OK. This will return you to your music library.
5. Right-click (Cmd-click) on the same music file again and this time select Convert Selection to AAC. iTunes will process this briefly and insert the new ringtone-sized file under the original file in your library.
6. Right-click (Cmd-click) on the newly created file and select: "Show in Windows Explorer (or Finder on a Mac)"
A new dialogue box will open showing you the location of this file. Select the file and rename it, changing the file extension from ".m4a" to ".m4r". Windows will warn you that this change may make the file unstable, but continue anyway.
Back in iTunes, delete the ringtone file you've created from your library, then import the renamed ".m4r" file into your library. Connect your iPhone and sync your playlist. You may have to manually drag the .m4r file into the Ringtones section on your iPhone. With your iPhone synced this file is now ready to be used as a ringtone.
