Here is a list of places where you can enjoy a meal
especially if you live around Pasir Panjang where the Church of Christ is located.
Dome
April 2002
At the West Coast Community Centre, this heartland Dome serves OK buffet lunch on Sundays for a reasonable fee. Service is typically Dome - excellent. Next to the chinese temple (opposite Ginza Plaza)
Hongkong Street Noodles
April 2002
Rated among Yummy's best, this Hongkong Street noodle stall is located at block 271, West Coast Road; (behind the chinese temple and community centre) next to the West Coast Hawker Centre (opposite Ginza Plaza).
Budget Meals
Ginza Plaza has a few restaurants - Chinese, Japanese etc. My
recommendation is Fatty's Restaurant. The soup mee hoon at 5 bucks is OK.
Across the Road, the Clementi West Hawker centre has good mee
pok (in the centre row), yong tow foo and fish soup (next to the market).
The coffee shop near the post office and 7-Eleven (behind the
hawker centre) has OK duck porridge.
Further down the road at the West Coast Hawker centre, you will
find good Malay and Indian food. In the evenings there are more
Chinese cooked food stalls opened.
Heading the other way, thee are two famous boneless duck coffee
shops at South Buona Vista Road.
The Dover Hawker Centre opposite Fairfield Methodist School has
good claypot rice. This stall, situated next to the market has
excellent cooked food. My wife enjoys the fried prawn mee and
rojak (cheap and good) at the other end of the Hawker centre.
An up-and-on food court is situated next to St Andrew's Junior
College. Nice setting but not many stalls. Ricky's Seafood has good pepper crabs.
Ghim Moh is a little ways off, but all three coffee shops there have
a good variety. So does the hawker centre. The corner coffee shop at
the hawker center has one of the best Roast Pork and Duck Rice around. There is also a chay kuey teow in the middle that attracts long queues. The pao at the post office end is superb. Small and delicious. On the same row are good fish rice and excellent pig's leg (eat at your own health risk).
Alexandra Village has good variety but is often crowded and hard to find parking. The fried rice (in the middle) and sea food (facing OG) are good. On the other end are good mee pok and goose meat. It is also
worthwhile to head towards Block 117 at Henderson Road for one of
the largest hawker centres around.
Aircon Comfort
There are two nice restaurants at Kent Ridge: a seafood place at
Clementi Woods (next to the Japanese School) and a Chinese restaurant
at the NUS Faculty Club (open to public) next to the swimming
pool.
The West Coast Recreation Centre houses
Jack's Place for steak and Palm Beach for Seafood.
Manhill is another good place to get a reasonable meal at a
reasonable price. Go for the Chicken special and 8-Star vegatable claypot.
Situated across the road from O'conners and the Pasir Panjang distripark.
June recommends Restaurant Lucerne at the Pasir Panjang Village: decent
Swiss food but pricey. Al Fresio, the Italian number at the back is nice
in the evenings.
There is a OK fast-food Conora deal at the Hub restaurant all the way
at the end of the Science Park.
The African Heartbeat at Science Park II is worth a try.
Nice ambience, good food and ample parking.
If you want to feed a dozen guys in air-con comfort for less than $100, head on to the Polytechnic Staff Centre at Dover Road, next to the Telecoms. So reasonable, the prices are like Hwaker prices.
Two good restaurants along Pasir Panjang are the Habour View Chinese
Restaurant and Coachman Inn Steak House at PSA towers.
At South Bouna Centre, Lemon Grass serves good Thai food with attentive service to match the price. I understand Safra card holders get 15% off.
At the World Trade Centre, you are spoilt for choice.
Ponggol Seafood has good Mee Goreng and the Indonesian restaurant has great
chendol.
