CHURCH CAMP REFLECTIONS
I recalled on 1st January 2007, at our Church Planning Day, elder Adrian indicated to us that the theme for this year’s camp is taken from 1 John 1:7 – “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son purifies us from all sin”.
As a new Christian, I know we have to walk not only in the light but also in the will of God but “how to do it?” is something I am interested to know and to learn. Elder Adrian threw us a very challenging question “How is your life… is it an Abundant life?” for us to think about.
Having gone through the 3 full day’s itinerary, I must applaud the great pains and efforts taken by elder Adrian and the working committee to have so carefully planned the flow and sequence of the programme with the pointed notes and references.
Psychiatrist M Scott Peck has said “Life is hard, and then you die” in his best selling book titled “The Road Less Travelled”. Is this how we should live our life? Life does not need to be hard. Life can be abundant if we know how to deal with our struggles.
I guess all will agree with me that life is never a bed of roses, there will always be ups and downs, as well as challenges to handle. Life’s struggles besides the bread and butter issues, is the very salient problem faced by each and everyone of us - “relationships”. It can be vertically, as with God, horizontally as with people around you -your spouse, children, relatives, friends, colleagues etc.
The 5 “Ws” - Wellness, Well-being, Wisdom, Will-power and Wholeness has indeed made me pondered over my relationships and the roles I have been playing so far in my life. Although I have already gone through half a century in this secular world, spiritually I am still very lacking. Walking close to God is a real challenge. A thought that I have to seriously ponder now. I am not as fortunate as some of you, especially the younger generations where you know God at a very young age.
This camp has indeed provided us an excellent opportunity to reflect on our spiritual wholeness and to see where we are on our journey to heaven. In all faith and glory, may we continue to walk in the light. Amen.
